Tax imports from China or block deliveries, Chancellor told

The Chancellor has been urged to fast-track a crackdown on a tax loophole that helps Chinese giants such as Shein and Temu.

High street retailers want to block foreign firms posting parcels to the UK worth up to £135 without paying tax.

Rachel Reeves has said this might not happen before March 2029.

Andrew Opie, at the British Retail Consortium, said: ‘UK retailers cannot afford to spend another three years competing on an unfair playing field against importers not paying tariffs.’

The EU is introducing a fee for imports worth €150 or less.
