Britain’s most popular new Chinese car is being recalled.
Thousands of the Jaecoo 7 have been called back to dealers due to an issue with a wiring harness clip, the vehicle maker confirms.
The Chinese SUV – dubbed the ‘Temu Range Rover’ by social media mums due to it looking like the Range Rover Velar but costing a fraction of the price – is the third best-selling new motor of 2026 so far.
The European Union’s Safety Gate website states that the faulty clip isn’t connected to the wiring harness correctly in some vehicles, which can trigger engine warning lights to come on and potentially cause the car to stall.
Jaecoo says the 1.6-litre TGi petrol is the only version affected, with the more popular plug-in hybrid versions not subject to the recall.
Still, some 7,500 UK Jaecoo 7s manufactured between April and December 2025 could potentially have this issue and are subject to the call back notice. This represents over a quarter of all new Jaecoos sold in the UK last year.
The Chinese company has confirmed the recall isn’t a ‘stop-drive’ order, so owners can continue using their vehicles between now and when they have a repair slot from a local dealership.
The Jaecoo 7, dubbed the ‘Temu Range Rover’ online has been recalled due to an issue with a wiring harness clip. Just the 1.6-litre petrol 7 is affected and owners can still drive the car
A spokesperson told Daily Mail and This is Money that owners of affected cars will be notified of the recall process ‘through relevant channels’.
They added: ‘At the same time, Jaecoo UK will contact users via CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems and authorised dealerships to provide them with free vehicle inspections and repairs.’
The company also confirmed that the issue has been resolved in the global production process, meaning no new models will have the same problem in the future.
As said, the 7 SHS ‘Super Hybrid’ version remains unaffected – the best-selling variant of the 7.
The SHS accounted for seven in ten Jaecoo 7 sales last year with a record number of Britons snapping up the keenly priced Range Rover lookalike.
Official registrations figures show that 30,100 were purchased by private buyers between January 2025 (when it debuted) and 2026 – more than any other car snapped up by the general car buying public.
And it’s proving incredibly popular this year.
In the first two months of 2026, the 7 is the third most sold new car across all segments with 5,505 registered in January and February combined.
Only the Ford Puma (6,935) and Kia Sportage (6,880) – last year’s best sellers – have sold in greater volumes this year.
The 7 recall is one of the first the new Jaecoo brand has experienced since entering the UK car market last year.
Owned by China’s largest car exporter, Chery, Jaecoo is the sister brand of Omoda, and is officially the fastest-growing mainstream automotive brand the UK has seen in the last ten years.
The Jaecoo 7 is priced from just £30,115 – almost half the price of a Range Rover Velar.
This is the car’s core appeal, along with its massive range and its abundance of standard tech and comfort features.
